Rag/Ribbon Flag

With the Fourth of July over, all of the decorations get clearanced out and room is made for school supplies or Halloween decor.   So, naturally, some people (that would be me) like to think ahead for next year...  One item that I plan on making for next year is the "rag flag".  I am going to credit our family photographer on this one, Meri Valentin photography, as she used this type of flag in our recent Fourth of July photos.

For me, the bigger, the better.   I plan on using a tension rod and fabric to hang the flag in our front window.  I think it could make such a statement!  Making the flag is super simple too!  All you have to do is:

1. Cut ribbon or lace and tear fabric to a desired length.  Fabric, ribbon, and lace can be all kinds of textures!  Stick to red and white though.
2.  Pic a material (preferably blue) to cut into a rectangle.  This will be the part of the flag that represents the stars...
3.  If you are comfortable, sew (or use hot glue or fabric glue) to attach the red and white ribbon, lace, or fabric below it.  These pieces of fabric will need to be shorter in length, but match up with the longer pieces you cut.
4. Tie the ribbons to the pole.
5. To attach the blue rectangle portion, fold the fabric so that the pole can fit through the top.  Sew along that seam.  If you're not comfortable, use fabric glue or hot glue.

Easy-peasy and so cute!
